‘Kalo Dungar’ or ‘Black Hill’ is the highest point in kutch. After travelling through an unusually stony landscape, you will reach Duttatreya, at the entrance to the site, a small colourful temple. Once inside, there are several areas that enjoy spectacular views over the Great Rann, stretching far into the distance, until it, and the sky becomes indistinguishable.
A popular attraction at Kalo Dungar is the feeding of the wild foxes. For centuries the priests have fed them. Responding to shouts of ‘longa longa’ and the beating of plates, dozens of foxes come to eat, as birds of prey hover above, on the lookout for scraps. 12 noon is a good time to get a clear view of the foxes being fed.
